I visited Patagonia in Argentina several years ago to see the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier. The ice field is 96 square miles and growing. Lago Argentino is the water to the right, which the glacier calves into. I had to move my trip to a week later because Madonna was playing in Buenos Aires and no rooms were available. Such is the hardship of the traveler!

I did a 4-day backpacking trip 240 miles north of Lima, Peru called the Santa Cruz trek. The trek runs for 31 miles and goes over a high spot at 15,617 feet. It is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful treks in the world. The horse saved me a couple of times when I ran out of gas due to the high altitude.
